Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Store Leak Called Almost Everything Right
A Microsoft Store leak spoiled Halo: Campaign Evolved weeks early, and Xbox’s official reveal matched it almost exactly, with early access five days off.
Halo: Campaign Evolved goes into early access on July 23, five days from now, and the Microsoft Store leak that outed the remake back in June got almost everything right. Two cosmetic listings that briefly went live on the storefront, the Alpha Halo Armory Pack and the Foundry Armory Pack, described content that Xbox later confirmed piece for piece at its own showcase.
That is not a small coincidence. It is a rare case of an accidental leak holding up better than the studio’s own hype cycle, and with the game confirmed gold ahead of a July 28 launch, the leak is worth revisiting as the more reliable record of what actually shipped.
Two Armory Packs Broke Cover Two Days Early
The leak surfaced roughly two days before the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, when store pages for the Alpha Halo Armory Pack and Foundry Armory Pack briefly went live before being pulled. Fans grabbed screenshots before Microsoft could scrub them, and the images showed cosmetic sets tied to Master Chief’s armor and weapons.
One of the leaked screenshots reportedly showed an armor set built as a recreation of the 2001 Mark V suit, alongside a separate cosmetic effect covered in pink Blamite crystal. Other images showed remade environments beyond the Silent Cartographer mission that Halo Studios had already previewed, plus new in-game looks for Sergeant Avery Johnson and Cortana.
The same batch of images also showed something nobody expected from a Halo: Combat Evolved remake: a combat vehicle mid-battle in open space, a mode the original 2001 campaign never had. Fans immediately started debating whether that was even real gameplay footage or a mistaken upload.

The Showcase Confirmed the Leak, Almost Line for Line
Two days later, at the Xbox Games Showcase confirmation of the July 28 launch date, Xbox laid out the full package, and the overlap with the leaked screenshots was almost total.
| What the Leak Showed (Early June) | What the Showcase Confirmed (June 7) |
|---|---|
| Alpha Halo Armory Pack, cosmetic listing tied to Master Chief | Five Master Chief armor skins and six weapon skins, bundled with the Digital Premium Edition |
| Foundry Armory Pack, classic Mark V recreation | Classic 2001 Mark V armor and rifle skins plus Gilded Onyx styles, free with any pre-order |
| Combat vehicle fighting in open space outside the atmosphere | A Seraph fighter space combat sequence built into the new campaign content |
| Redesigned Brutes carrying a Spiker Rifle and Brute Plasma Rifle | A new enemy type called the Brute Berserker, confirmed in the reveal trailer |
| Three unannounced missions set before Alpha Halo | Operation: METEORITE, a three-mission prequel arc set a year before Combat Evolved |
Halo Studios built Operation: METEORITE around Master Chief and Johnson infiltrating a Covenant vessel behind enemy lines, with the story co-written by Troy Denning, a novelist known for several Halo tie-in books. That framing lines up with what leaked screenshots hinted at weeks earlier: new enemies, new weapons, and a prequel arc nobody had officially named yet.
What Did the Leak Get Wrong?
Almost nothing structural, but one detail did not match. Leaked commentary speculated that Master Chief piloted a Covenant Seraph fighter above the planet Reach during its glassing. The actual New Missions Trailer places that same Seraph sequence inside Operation: METEORITE, tied to the Covenant vessel Johnson and Chief infiltrate, not to Reach at all.
Other leaked details, like a Prophet shown in ceremonial dress alongside Elites and Grunts, never got an official callout in the showcase trailer or the accompanying Xbox Wire post. Those elements remain unconfirmed rather than debunked, since Halo Studios has not detailed every enemy encounter in the prequel missions.
Microsoft’s Storefront Keeps Doing This
The Microsoft Store has a habit of publishing things before it should. This leak followed the same pattern as other pre-showcase slip-ups: a listing goes live for cosmetic DLC, gets indexed and screenshotted within minutes, then disappears with no official explanation.
It is the kind of glitch that fits a broader pattern of storefront reliability problems Microsoft has spent the past year trying to fix, including the years-long download throttling issue on Windows 11 that only recently got resolved. A store that struggles to serve files at full speed is also, apparently, a store that struggles to keep unlaunched product pages private.
A Halo Remake That Also Lands on PS5
The leak arrived alongside another detail nobody disputed: Halo: Campaign Evolved marks the first mainline Halo release on PlayStation hardware in the franchise’s 25-year history. It launches simultaneously on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 on July 28.
That decision sits inside a broader shift in how Xbox talks about exclusivity. The platform holder has increasingly framed its biggest games as reaching PC and cloud even when they stay off rival consoles, and moves like Xbox’s redefined approach to what counts as a console exclusive make a Halo remake shipping day one on PS5 look less like an outlier and more like where the strategy was always heading.
Five Days to Early Access, and the Game Already Went Gold
Halo: Campaign Evolved went gold ahead of schedule. Halo’s official X account confirmed the milestone on July 13, 2026, five days after the studio locked the final build.
HaloCE is officially gold and Early Access begins on July 23.
That announcement, posted from Halo’s verified account, closes the loop on a launch window that has held steady since the June showcase. Three editions are available, and the price gap between them comes down to time and cosmetics more than content.
- Standard Edition, $49.99: the full remade campaign plus Operation: METEORITE, available July 28, with day-one access included for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.
- Premium Edition, $69.99: adds the Alpha Halo Armory Pack, a digital artbook, the Hungry Buzzards short story by Troy Denning, and up to five days of early access starting July 23.
- Collector’s Edition, $199.99: includes a 12-inch Dark Horse Master Chief statue, a light-up Cortana chip, a Steelbook case, and a physical disc, on top of the same early access window. Halo Waypoint listed it as sold out within a day of the reveal.
Every pre-order, regardless of edition, still carries the Foundry Armory Pack bonus tied to the Mark V armor, as long as the order goes in before July 27. Miss that cutoff and the bonus disappears for good, though the game itself remains available at full price after launch.
Watch the full reveal in the New Missions Trailer from the Xbox Games Showcase and the overlap with those June screenshots is hard to miss. A storefront bug spoiled Microsoft’s surprise. It just happened to spoil the right one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is multiplayer included in Halo: Campaign Evolved?
No competitive multiplayer ships with the remake. The game supports four player online co-op and two player split screen on console, but there are no ranked playlists or matchmaking modes, since Operation: METEORITE and the main campaign remain the entire package.
Can Xbox Game Pass subscribers get early access?
Not by default. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers receive the Standard Edition at launch on July 28. Reaching the July 23 early access window requires a separate twenty dollar Premium upgrade, even for existing subscribers.
What PC specs does Halo: Campaign Evolved need?
Halo Studios has pointed to demanding requirements for the top visual tier, listing an RTX 4080 graphics card and thirty two gigabytes of RAM for 4K Ultra settings, a jump from what the Master Chief Collection ever asked of PC hardware.
Is this a remaster or a full remake?
It is a ground up rebuild in Unreal Engine 5, not a visual patch over the 2001 code. Halo Studios kept portions of the original Blam engine specifically to preserve Combat Evolved’s physics and enemy behavior, while every visual element was rebuilt from scratch.
