Microsoft Office 2021 Still Sells for $30 as Support Ends

$29.97 still buys a Microsoft Office Professional 2021 lifetime license on StackSocial, while Microsoft ends support on October 13, 2026. The listing keeps the one-time pitch that deal pages used all summer. Microsoft’s own pages now describe the same suite as software it will stop patching.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and OneNote still install on one Windows PC. They also sit weeks from the date Microsoft says there will be no extended security updates.

The $30 License Microsoft Did Not Put on Sale

Microsoft is not discounting Office 2021 in its store. The cheap key is a StackSocial listing for Office Professional 2021 for $29.97, marked down from a $219.99 suggested price, or 86% off. The page claims a Microsoft-verified partner, instant key delivery, and more than 5,000 copies sold.

Summer deal pages treated that price as a clock that was about to hit zero. One run said the sale ended July 19 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Later pages cut it to $27.97, then parked it back at $29.97. Anyone who followed the $30 license countdown already saw how often that clock resets.

The listing is blunt about what the key is not. “The product you are purchasing is NOT MICROSOFT 365,” it says, in the same block that lists Teams as a free extra. There is no 1 TB of OneDrive, no Copilot in the desktop apps, and no roaming install tied to a Microsoft account, at least as StackSocial writes the terms.

What End of Support on October 13 Covers

Microsoft’s support page on the end of support for Office 2021 sets the date at October 13, 2026. It also says there will be no extension and no extended security updates. The apps may keep launching. Microsoft’s warning is about unpatched bugs after that date, not an instant kill switch.

Office 2021 shipped on October 5, 2021, as Home and Student, Home and Business, and Professional. Microsoft’s lifecycle table lists a retirement date of October 14, 2026, in Pacific time. The consumer support article that people actually read still names October 13, and that is the date Microsoft repeats when it talks about Publisher in the same suite.

WHAT STOPS ON OCTOBER 13

• Security fixes: Microsoft will not ship patches for Office 2021 bugs found after that date, including fixes meant to block viruses and spyware.
• Software updates: the 2021 builds stop getting quality updates, after a retail refresh dated September 8, 2026, as Version 2608 (Build 20326.20144).
• Human support: phone and chat help for Office 2021 end, and most online help for that version is slated to be retired.
• Home users: Microsoft says you can keep using Home and Student 2021 or Home and Business 2021, and then points those buyers toward a newer Office or Microsoft 365.

That is a colder offer than the lifetime language on the deal page. 1. October 1, 2026: Microsoft 365 subscribers lose Publisher. They will not be able to open or edit.pub files in Publisher, and Microsoft tells them to convert files to PDF or Word first.
2. October 13, 2026: support ends for perpetual Publisher, on the same day Office LTSC 2021 and consumer Office 2021 lose support. The installed 2021 app can still run.
3. October 9, 2029: Office LTSC 2024, the current volume one-time suite, reaches end of support after five years.

That split is the quiet reason a 2021 Pro key still has a job. A Microsoft 365 subscriber who lives in Publisher files cannot keep the app inside the subscription after October 1. Keys that activate for $30 live far below Microsoft’s own one-time prices, which is why cheap listings have always drawn questions about where the codes were first bought.

StackSocial’s reviews still read like working installs. Antonio Aceves, a verified buyer on September 6, called it “an excellent, complete, and legal program at a very competitive price.” Robert Spears wrote that he linked the software to an account at Microsoft so he could reinstall it, which is not how StackSocial describes the binding. Those two notes can both be true in the short run and still leave a buyer with a key that is harder to move than a 365 seat.

Why a Frozen Office Still Sells Against Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 Personal is $99.99 a year, or $9.99 a month. That yearly bill is more than three times the $29.97 key, and three years of Personal land at $299.97. Family is $129.99 a year for up to six people. Premium is $199.99 a year. Personal includes 1 TB of cloud storage, Copilot in the desktop apps, Defender, and Teams calling, none of which ship with Office 2021.

The 2021 key wins only if you want the 2021 ribbon, offline installs, and a stopped feature clock. It loses if you need current Excel functions, Copilot, or a second PC. It also loses the moment you treat “lifetime” as “Microsoft will keep hardening this binary.”

OFFICE PRICE AND SUPPORT

Deal copy likes to say you are done paying. You are done paying Microsoft for that 2021 binary. You are also done receiving Microsoft’s patches for it after October 13, which is the trade the $29.97 price is actually making.

Office 2024 Is the Supported One-Time Buy

If the goal is a frozen Office that Microsoft still patches, 2021 is the wrong year. Microsoft still sells Office Home 2024 as a one-time purchase at $179.99 for one PC or Mac, with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Office LTSC 2024 is the volume version, with Access on Windows, and Microsoft says that channel is supported through October 9, 2029.

If you want the version after 2024, you buy that version at full price, or you move to Microsoft 365. Copilot stays on the subscription side. The 2021 deal’s missing AI is not a bug in the listing. It is the product Microsoft stopped putting into perpetual Office.
